Dr. Karen Shackelford is an emergency physician with 12 years of experience as a medical editor and writer. As Director of Medical Content at BoardVitals, she developed CE and question-bank content for 110 licensure and certification exams spanning nursing, advanced practice nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and allied health, and recruited and trained a team of more than 50 physician writers.

She has authored questions and explanations for NCLEX and nurse practitioner exam banks, and her medical writing background includes CME development, regulatory documents, and patient education materials. She holds an MD from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed residency in Emergency Medicine.
